PoE media converter is one of the common devices for building enterprise PoE network architecture. It can use the existing unshielded twisted pair cabling to power network devices.

1、 What is a PoE media converter?  
In short, PoE media converter is a photoelectric converter with power over Ethernet (POE) function. It can supply power to remote IP camera, wireless equipment and VOIP phone through network cable, which saves the trouble of installing power cable alone. At present, PoE media converter is mainly used in two kinds of networks: Gigabit Ethernet and fast Ethernet. It can support POE (15.4 watts) and Poe + (25.5 watts) two power supply modes. The common Poe optical transceiver in the market is usually equipped with one RJ45 interface and one SC/FC/ST/LC SFP interface, and the other Poe optical transceiver will be equipped with duplex RJ45 interface and duplex optical interface, supporting the use of fixed optical connector or SFP optical module.
2、 How does PoE media converter work?   
PoE media converter has two functions, one is Optical to ethernet conversion, the other is to transmit DC power to near end equipment through network cable, that is to say, the optical interface receives and transmits optical signals through optical fiber, the RJ45 interface transmits ethernet signals through network cable and supplies power to near end equipment. So, how does PoE media converter use the network cable to power the near end equipment? It works the same way as other PoE devices. We know that there are 4 pairs of twisted pairs (8 wires) in the cat5e or cat6 network lines, while in the 10Base-T and 100Base-T networks, only two pairs of twisted pairs are used to transmit data signals, and the remaining two pairs of twisted pairs are idle. At this time, we can use these two pairs of twisted pairs to transmit DC power.
